Magnet School of Distinction
 
 
Niemes Elementary has been recognized as a Magnet School of Distinction in The Magnet Schools of America Merit Award program. Niemes was recognized as a top magnet school in the United States for showing a commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation/diversity efforts, a highly qualified and specialized teaching staff, and parent and community involvement. Our environmental science and technology program was rewarded for its innovation and its success in consistently promoting student achievement.

Niemes was awarded the Golden Bell Award for an Outstanding Environmental Science Program and Environmental Festival

 Nationally Recognized Healthy School of America
 
 
Niemes was recognized as a Healthy School of America by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, the American Heart Association, and the Clinton Foundation. Read our handbook for our Wellness Policy and join a School Site Council/PTA meeting for more information.
 
Verizon Innovative School & iPad 1:1 Initiative
 
 
Niemes has been awarded the Verizon Innovative Schools Grant! Only 12 schools were awarded in the United States, and 1 school in California. Our teachers and staff have attended ISTE professional development to successfuly implement this new technology.

During the 2012-2013 school year all 5th grade students will begin to be issued an iPad to expand educational opportunities, at school and at home. This is the first 1:1 initiative adopted in ABC. We are excited to move forward in this endeavor, and lead this innovative program.
 
CABE Seal of Excellence Award
 
In 2013 Niemes Elementary School’s Dual Language Program was recognized with the California Association for Bilingual Education’s Seal of Excellence. Niemes’s Dual Language Program showed a substantial amount of evidence of the bilingual proficiency and academic achievement for students in the program. It also proved that it delivers comprehensive and enriched instruction that includes English Language Development, primary language instruction and specially designed academic instruction in English.
